![]() I spent the last couple of weeks searching thru all the fake patina painting technics, etc. One with just the basics that the late 50's early sixties had if possible or something along those lines. When the time comes to wire our bug up I would like to get rid of the original one and substitute a much simpler one. What wiring harness did you use? Did you use your stock one? J-Swiph that is one awesome ride you have there. Look at real patina cars and look where the paint is worn off, dont sand it where you will notice it is fake.įriends dont let friends do fauxtina! Just foolin with ya, do what makes you happy! There are good patina paint jobs and there are bad patina paint jobs. Think of it as me playing devil's advocate. Not trying to talk you out of it and have no vested interest in your project. Artificial anything seldom conjures positive thoughts for the most part. The average person will probably catch the vibe and like it while the thinkers will be left scratching their heads wondering why you did it and what it is supposed to mean esthetically. With regards to the patina it depends what crowd you are in front of. However does sound like a great dad son project. Real patina is so nice not sure about fake patina. You should go check out my build on the link below, its a 70Īnd i tried to go old school with it. I personally, think that is a great idea. When its done it would be a simple car to run around in. Thats the start of the idea. What do you guys think? Then wire the thing up with as simple a wiring harness as possible, basic gauges, etc. I have an old dash panel from a scrapped 64 Bug he wants to switch to also. Welding up the gas tank filler opening (have to open the bonnet to fill the tank) making it look like an older body style. Our discussion has us putting on the older smaller front and rear tail lights housings, etc. Maybe some old looking signage on the sides. Once the body and its components are rust free and primered, he wants to put a patina paint job on it. On the body our idea is to cut out and replace any rust etc. On the chassis and drivetrain, Our ideas are to redo the stock components ,pan back to a realiable stock set up. My son has asked me to help him restore a 71 standard bug which I had just picked up last weekend. ![]() View original topic: Old patina looking paint. new restoration?
